Why Formula 1 is way more than just a sport to me

Some people go for long walks or meditate to recharge their creative battery. However, as an F1 racing enthusiast, I fuel my creative engine with the raw speed, strategy, and chaos of F1. As per my profession, I am an award-winning art director, digital designer, and illustrator, and I have exhibited work for local and international clients. However, when I am not buried in brand development or photoshoot direction or during a Grand Prix weekend, I am completely engrossed in the drama of tyre strategy, DRS zones, and pit wall decisions. I strongly believe that F1 is a masterclass in performance, precision, and visual storytelling rather than just being a race.

My design career has always been driven by my desire to create something new while I am working with multinational companies like PlayStation, Nike, and Coca-Cola. With this desire, I have a strong belief in the fact that nothing is a better example of invention than F1. These machines are rolling pieces of design perfection, sculpted by wind tunnels and human obsession. Besides the engineering, the symmetry, the color palettes, as well as the liveries, are responsible for igniting the passion in me to bring creativity to my work. My designer brain kicks into overdrive when I see that Ferrari has dropped a new matte finish or Red Bull modifying its front wing.

The strategies followed in F1 further captivate me to be innovative and creative. For example, the whole narrative of race is changing within just a second due to the team dynamics, in-race decisions, and pit stop timing. It is just like leading a cross-functional team at the time of launching a new product. You just need to invest your time in quick thinking, precision execution, along with trusting your crew to deliver award-winning results, just as you need to do on the track.

I have seen Max Verstappen dominate with unrelenting pace or Lewis Hamilton battle for tenths of a second, which reminded me that excellence is not a coincidence. It is purely practiced, earned, and polished. Besides, I am always keen to start my work with the same mindset, whether I am creating a global campaign for Verizon or working on designing a lookbook for a fashion business. I try to pursue the same excitement at the time of completing my work instead of horsepower and gear shifts.

In my opinion, the aesthetic is the main thing that completes the circle. F1 is truly spectacular in every season. In this context, Spa’s broad angles, Singapore’s neon night lights, and the austere modernism of the Mercedes garage all show top-notch art. I follow F1 as a person who is enthusiastic about intricate art direction and work in picture development. Watching F1 reminded me that excellence isn’t a coincidence, especially watching the performance of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Besides, the brands involved in F1 also encourage me to a greater extent. I believe that F1 is not only fast, but it is also stylish, smart, and strategic. Every pixel in F1 counts, starting from the high-concept sponsorship livery which spans carbon fibre bodies to the simple graphic interfaces present on the steering wheels. Surprisingly, my universe is also just like that. I have followed the same things for building my campaigns with including slick design, cultural relevance, along with laser-focused messaging.

I’m KJ on the weekends, the guy who yells at tyre strategy calls as if they were twists in a thriller’s storyline. I’m also KJ throughout the week, the person who creates campaigns and designs systems for the largest businesses all across the world. However, the general themes in my life remain constant, including pushing limits, seeking accuracy, and becoming fixated on the slightest details.

I consider F1 as my creative engine and a metaphor for greatness. And indeed, every time those five red lights go out, I get chills.

The designer must be an interpreter, and real and virtual needs must anticipate those questions of people that they do not think, and suddenly opened in the already created objects.

For me, the design — it is the quality of life. Good design has little to do with trends. Tired of listening to how he try to give the status of a frivolous fashion phenomenon. In my opinion, the designer should strive to do more than separate things.

Minimalism has reached a certain critical point, the top. Where to go? I do not know. The main thing for the designer — to create things that are pleasing to him, the work brings satisfaction, and cooperation with the customer — satisfaction. We need to understand what the customer wants, and to connect it with your wishes and possibilities. To create something outstanding, we need the enthusiasm of both. I am a very happy person, because I worked with wonderful customers who have helped me very.

  • Design — is not how the object looks, but how it works.
  • Good design — is innovative.
  • A good design — is as little design as possible.
  • Good design — aesthetic.

Think about the content that you want to invest in a created object, and only then will form. The thing is your spirit. A spirit unlike forms hard copy.

I want to create beautiful things, even if it’s not necessary for anyone, as a fight against ugly things. This is my intention.

Fast, cheap and good — from these three things you should always choose two. If it’s fast and cheap, it will never be good. If it’s cheap and good, it will never work out quickly. And if it is good and fast, it will never come cheap. But remember: of the three you still have to always choose two.

I love the feel and sophistication of its superiority. I like people with a keen mind and at the same time easy to talk to.
